Celebrating 25 Years

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, I would like to thank my coworkers, clients, family, and friends. The last quarter of a century has been an incredible journey. Private Eyes has grown, evolved, and succeeded based on feedback from you, we wouldn’t be here without you. It is hard to imagine that we were just about to enter the 21st century when we started and everyone was worried about Y2K (for those who don’t know). We blinked and now we are halfway through the 20s.

Thank you so much for all your support these past 25 years, I can’t wait to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2049!

As always, please reach out to our team with any questions.

Stay safe and healthy,
Sandra James

California Court of Appeal Thwarts Efforts to Conceal Important Driving History Information from Employers

Employers with operations in California are all too familiar with how state and local officials continue to restrict the access employers have to public records, including criminal history information. For example, lengthy delays in completing standard criminal background checks are now routine in California. Apart from criminal background checks, many employers rely on motor vehicle record checks (MVRs) to vet candidates for positions that require driving as part of the job. In Doe v. California Dept. of Motor Vehicles, the court of appeal rejected the plaintiffs’ efforts to enjoin the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) from releasing information about the reason for a driver’s alcohol-impaired driving license suspension (e.g., the driver had an excessive blood-alcohol level) when the driver has not been convicted. Reversing the trial court, the court of appeal held the disclosure of such information does not constitute the disclosure of information about a non-conviction arrest within the meaning of California’s privacy laws. This is a rare “win” for employers in the Golden State.

Delivering a “Purrfect” Cup of Coffee & Tea

My good friend, Lisa Castillo, after spending a career in Supplier Diversity has taken the plunge and started her new company Black Kat Cafe Company as a woman-owned business with her husband. They officially launched this year and are a Northern California provider of specialty coffees and artisan teas. Renowned for their freshness, aromatic flavors, and high quality, they offer a variety of organic, naturally grown, and fair-trade fresh roasted coffee bags and loose-leaf teas. I can personally vouch for their vanilla tea because I’m addicted to it!

As a special thank you to the Private Eyes team, they are giving a one-time 10% discount code, privateeyes2024, at checkout so that everyone can enjoy the purrfect cup of coffee or tea. Try some by following this link: www.blackkatcafecompany.com
